The route is out and back, up Hembrillo Canyon and back. It covers mixed terrain, but is mostly a rocky, two-track road with some travel in the gravely canyon bottom.
THIS IS NOT A RACE! The route is out and back, up Hembrillo Canyon and back. It covers mixed terrain. but is mostly a rocky, two-track road with some travel in the gravely canyon bottom. The total ride distance is 18 miles. the elevation gain is 1,100 feet. The canyon is in the middle of the Missile Range in a restricted area. Participants are required to drive to and from the site in escorted groups. No one can enter or leave without an official escort. Riders need to understand that the area is very isolated. There are no services or medical facilities. The drive to the start is 36 miles.
With registration, participants receive shirt, lunch and refreshments.
IN PROCESSING
6:30am-7:00am: In processing at the entrance to Small Missile Range. Mile Marker 174/175, east of White Sands Missile Range. Must be checked in by 7:00am or you will not be allowed into Small Missile Range. You must have valid identification, proof of insurance and vehicle registration.
Riders must have enough gas to get to and from the ride site, 72 miles round trip.
SAFETY INFORMATION
Helmets must be worn. Also, Army regulations prohibit the wearing of headphones while bicycling on a military installation. When you pick up your shirt, you will be required to read and sign a hazards orientation letter (UXO). It is in addition to the waiver.
PHOTOGRAPHY IS PROHIBITED
No photography is allowed while on the Missile Range.
